DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A police constable was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Panyala area on Sunday while he was on leave and returning to his home, police said.
According to details, the incident occurred near the Sarko Qamar Toye area of Panyala. The victim, 44-year-old police constable Abdul Qayum, a resident of Mohallah Changa Khel, Panyala, had come home on two days’ leave.
His brother, Muhammad Faheem, 27, son of Faiz-ul-Qayum, lodged a first information report (FIR) at Shaheed Nawab police station. In the FIR, he stated that Abdul Qayum was returning home on his motorcycle after checking his orchard when unknown armed men opened fire on him.
As a result of the firing, Abdul Qayum sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot. Upon receiving information, a heavy police contingent rushed to the area and shifted the body for legal formalities. Police said an investigation into the incident had been launched, while efforts were under way to trace and arrest those responsible for the killing.
