KARACHI: In a distressing incident in North Karachi, a pregnant woman has reportedly lost her life at a private hospital, with her family attributing her tragic death to alleged medical negligence. The case, which has stirred public outrage, took place in the 11-B area of North Karachi and highlights what the woman’s family claims was a lack of adequate medical care and doctor availability, factors they believe led to her untimely death just a day before her scheduled delivery.
The family reports that, upon bringing the woman to the hospital in critical condition, they discovered that the doctor assigned to her case was not on duty. Instead, they were instructed to seek assistance from a different doctor, who was on call. However, when they arrived, this doctor was reportedly attending to another patient and did not immediately assess the woman. The family claims that while awaiting attention, the woman passed away without having received any examination or care.
Hospital representatives have countered this account, suggesting that she had already died prior to her arrival at the facility, a claim the family vehemently disputes. The aftermath of this devastating incident saw heightened emotions and a palpable sense of injustice. Grieving family members, frustrated by the apparent lack of accountability and urgent care, protested at the hospital, leading to a tense atmosphere that culminated in some acts of vandalism.
Amidst the commotion, hospital staff and attending doctors allegedly vacated the premises, further inflaming the family’s sense of abandonment and anger. Local police have yet to make any arrests or detain hospital personnel in connection with the incident, leaving the family’s calls for justice unmet.
