ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari praised Jordan’s ongoing engagement and support for Pakistan, highlighting the country’s role in promoting regional peace and stability. He made the remarks during a meeting with Pakistan’s Ambassador-designate to Jordan, Major General (Retd) Khurram Sarfraz Khan, who called on him in Islamabad today.

The President described Pakistan’s relationship with Jordan as pivotal, noting that the two countries share deep-rooted ties shaped by a common history, culture, and faith. He emphasized that these longstanding bonds had laid a strong foundation for continued cooperation across political, economic, and diplomatic arenas.

On the issue of Palestine, Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s principled stance, underlining the country’s diplomatic support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s position in favor of the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

The President highlighted that Pakistan would continue to raise the issue at international forums and advocate for a just resolution in line with international law. Expressing confidence in the Ambassador-designate, President Zardari said he expected Major General (Retd) Khurram Sarfraz Khan to carry out his duties with dedication and commitment.

Zardari stressed that the ambassador would play a key role in further strengthening Pakistan’s bilateral relations with both Jordan and Palestine, fostering closer political dialogue, and enhancing mutual understanding between the countries.
