ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari stated on Friday that Pakistan’s ongoing struggle against terrorism draws its strength from the sacrifices of its martyrs, paying a solemn tribute to his late wife, former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, on the anniversary of the 2007 Karsaz bombings.
In a message marking the somber occasion, the president honored “the martyrs of democracy” and recalled Benazir Bhutto’s unwavering commitment. He noted that she had returned to the country despite clear threats and remained steadfast in her mission even after the devastating attack on her homecoming procession.
“Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto visited the injured and expressed solidarity with the grieving families,” Zardari said, framing her actions as a lasting example. “Her struggle and sacrifice remain a source of guidance for us today.”
The president’s message reinforces the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) enduring narrative of resilience and sacrifice, coming just days after senior party leaders, including Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, commemorated the same event.
