WASHINGTON: White House spokesperson Caroline Lewitt claimed that positive talks are underway regarding the Iran conflict, and Iran has agreed to some of the U.S. proposals. Speaking with media, she said President Donald Trump wants a deal with Iran before the April 6 deadline and that the Iran conflict could last four to six more weeks overall.
Lewitt explained that there is a difference between what is discussed privately and what is communicated publicly, adding that Iran’s private messages to the U.S. will be verified. She also noted that President Trump may ask Arab countries to contribute to the costs of the conflict, stating that he is interested in Gulf countries sharing expenses, though the final decision rests with the President.
The spokesperson said the U.S. does not support Iran charging tolls for the Strait of Hormuz and expects 20 tankers to pass through the strait in the coming days. She added that the U.S. allowed Russia to send an oil tanker to Cuba for humanitarian reasons, with no change in U.S. policy toward Cuba.
It is worth noting that Iran has denied direct negotiations with the U.S. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated that no direct talks have taken place and that messages were conveyed through intermediaries.
