MEHAR: A protest sit-in on the Indus Highway in Mehar disrupted traffic between Karachi and Hyderabad after demonstrators blocked the road against rising fuel prices. The protest was held on the call of the Sindh United Party, causing severe difficulties for hundreds of passengers.

The sit-in took place near the Mehar CNG station under the leadership of district president Sikandar Sodhar, Ali Akbar, Abdul Majeed Sodhar, Akhtiar Ali and Comrade Hashim Rind. Due to the blockade, traffic remained suspended for several hours, affecting commuters travelling to and from Karachi and Hyderabad.
Protesters raised strong slogans against the government and criticised recent increases in petrol and diesel prices. Speaking on the occasion, leaders said the public was suffering due to what they described as poor decisions by incompetent and corrupt rulers. They said the overnight increase in fuel prices had triggered a “bomb of inflation” for ordinary citizens.
They added that rising inflation has made it difficult for people to afford even basic necessities, with farmers, labourers and workers struggling to sustain their livelihoods. The leaders alleged that the fuel price hike was imposed to cover up corruption, further worsening the economic situation.
The protesters termed the decision anti-people and said anger and frustration were growing among the masses. They warned that if the increase in petrol prices is not withdrawn immediately, the scope of protests would be expanded.
