DADU: A protest demonstration was held in Dadu against the recent increase in petrol and diesel prices, with participants accusing the government of deepening the country’s economic hardship.
The rally, organised by the Awami Forum, saw protesters gather outside the local press club carrying banners and placards while chanting slogans against both the federal and Sindh governments.
Speakers said the rise in fuel prices had placed an unbearable burden on citizens, arguing that the impact was being felt across all sectors of daily life. They accused those in power of shifting the economic burden onto the public while maintaining their own privileges.
Awami Forum chairman Ashiq Zunor said inflation had surged sharply following the increase in petroleum prices, making even basic food items unaffordable. He warned that the situation was becoming increasingly unsustainable for ordinary people.
Residents described the hike as an “economic bomb”, saying transport fares and the cost of essential goods had risen further. Niaz Hussain Panwhar said the price increases had compounded the difficulties faced by low- and middle-income households.
The protest was attended by several Awami Forum leaders, including Mehboob Soomro, Shiraz Laghari, Kashif Chandio, Dr Jabbar Babar, G M Panwhar, Ghulam Hussain Lund, Zamir Korejo and Rajab Azad Solangi.
Speakers warned that the growing burden of inflation on poorer segments of society was dangerous and could worsen economic inequality. They urged citizens to continue peaceful protests and called on the federal government to reverse the fuel price increases, warning that demonstrations would expand if no action was taken.
