KARACHI: The city of Karachi is grappling with severe traffic disruptions as widespread protests erupt over ongoing power and water outages. Key thoroughfares, including Mai Kolachi Road, Teen Talwar, Do Talwar, Shara-e-Faisal, and Korangi Road, have been heavily affected by congestion and blockades, leading to significant delays for commuters.

The protests, which have intensified over the past few days, have brought major routes to a standstill. Heavy traffic combined with container blockades has exacerbated the situation, creating massive traffic jams throughout the city. Commuters heading to work are experiencing substantial delays, with many struggling to reach their destinations amid the chaotic traffic conditions. In addition to the roadblocks on major routes, demonstrations have also spread to areas such as I.I. Chundrigar Road and Shaheen Complex, particularly around Railway Colony.

These protests have further compounded the traffic woes, affecting both local and inter-city travel. On Monday, a large assembly of residents, including women and children, staged a sit-in on Hawksbay Road in front of Mauripur Main Bazaar. This protest, aimed at highlighting the severe impact of power and water shortages, involved blocking traffic for several hours, contributing to widespread traffic jams across the region. The prolonged sit-ins and protests have resulted in long queues of vehicles, causing severe inconvenience to the public and disrupting daily routines.

The situation remains fluid, with ongoing demonstrations likely to continue affecting traffic patterns and adding to the city’s challenges in managing its transport infrastructure. As the protests show no sign of abating, authorities are under increasing pressure to address the underlying issues causing public discontent and restore normalcy to Karachi’s traffic flow.
