ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has mandated that Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), be afforded all the necessary facilities he is entitled to while incarcerated at Adiala Jail. This directive was issued during a hearing responding to a request by Noreen Niazi, who sought better conditions for Khan in light of his status as a high-profile prisoner.
During the proceedings, both the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons and the Deputy Superintendent of Adiala Jail were present to address the court. The Deputy Superintendent asserted that all required facilities had already been provided to Khan, in compliance with jail regulations. Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, overseeing the hearing, inquired about the presence of lawyer Shoaib Shaheen, who was expected to confirm the availability of these facilities. The hearing was temporarily adjourned until Shaheen could arrive.
When the hearing resumed, Justice Arbab noted that meetings with Khan had been reinstated, but the PTI founder had yet to receive newspapers, which the Deputy Superintendent confirmed were available according to the jail manual. Justice Arbab cautioned against creating unnecessary complications and emphasized the importance of ensuring communication for Khan, particularly regarding his inability to contact his sons via phone or WhatsApp.
