SWABI: Former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser and MNA Shahram Khan Tarkai voiced serious concerns over Pakistan’s political and constitutional situation during a press conference at Tarkai House in Swabi.
Asad Qaiser described the law and order situation as “worse than martial law,” accusing the government of failing to enact laws in the public interest and of depriving citizens of their fundamental rights. He said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) aimed to strengthen democracy and the judiciary, but claimed the rulers themselves were disregarding the Constitution.
He raised concerns over PTI founder Imran Khan’s health, alleging that government spokespersons were misleading the public and that despite the Islamabad High Court’s orders, the Chief Minister’s visit to the jail did not allow proper access. Qaiser demanded immediate examination of Imran Khan by three independent doctors.
Reaffirming PTI’s commitment to lawful protest, he said the party would not remain silent or be intimidated. Highlighting PTI’s electoral mandate, he stated the party had won 182 seats compared with PML-N’s 17, and challenged Nawaz Sharif to publicly claim victory. He also called on citizens to join a peaceful protest on February 8 to defend democratic rights.
