ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has moved the Supreme Court seeking urgent relief for Imran Khan medical treatment, demanding his transfer to hospital for specialised eye care. The party says the jailed former prime minister’s eyesight is deteriorating and access to his personal doctors is being denied.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has approached the Supreme Court of Pakistan to seek immediate medical relief for its founder Imran Khan, who has been in jail for over two years. PTI leaders and Khan’s family members are raising concerns over his worsening eye condition and overall health.

According to the petition, Khan, 73, has been left with only around 15% vision in his right eye. The application claims that delayed and inadequate medical care in jail led to the complete loss of vision in one eye. PTI’s legal team has requested that he be shifted to Shifa International Hospital for specialised treatment by a retina specialist.

The plea also asks the court to allow access to Khan’s personal physicians, Dr Faisal Sultan and Dr Asim Yousaf, and to permit family members to remain present during medical examinations. It further demands that his lawyers be provided attested copies of all medical reports to ensure proper legal representation.

The petition states that medical check-ups were conducted on February 15 inside Central Jail Rawalpindi and later at PIMS Hospital on February 23, but neither his family nor his personal doctors were informed. PTI alleges that a panel of selected doctors carried out the examination without prior notice, calling the process secretive and concerning.

Earlier, the court had appointed Barrister Salman Safdar as a friend of the court to visit Khan in jail and submit a report on his health and living conditions. His findings confirmed serious concerns about Khan’s eyesight and noted that timely medical intervention had not been provided despite repeated complaints.

PTI lawyers, including Barrister Gohar Ayub, Salman Akram Raja, Latif Khosa and Ali Muhammad Khan, met the Supreme Court registrar to seek early fixation of the case. An application for urgent hearing has been filed, with expectations that the matter may be taken up next week.

Legal experts, however, point out that constitutional amendments may limit the court’s jurisdiction in granting relief in such matters. Despite this, PTI continues to press for immediate judicial intervention, saying continued uncertainty about Khan’s health is causing distress among his family and supporters.
