SUKKUR: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh caravan, led by PTI Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh, encountered significant obstacles in Matiari and other districts as it journeyed toward Islamabad for a rally scheduled on September 8. The caravan, consisting of buses and hundreds of vehicles, set out to join PTI’s planned rally in Islamabad. After receiving a warm welcome in Hyderabad, the convoy moved toward Matiari, where it was delayed by a heavy police presence, allegedly under the pretext of conducting vehicle checks.

Despite prolonged protests, the PTI convoy pressed on, encountering further police blockades at Saeedabad and other points across Sindh. In a separate incident, the PTI Mirpurkhas Division caravan, traveling by train, was forcibly removed by police at Nawabshah. PTI Mirpurkhas President Aftab Hussain Qureshi and several other leaders, including Kanwal Ijaz Randhawa, were arrested. The Sindh caravan, which is expected to join smaller convoys from various cities, plans to reach Islamabad via the motorway from Sukkur by tonight.

Speaking to party workers and the media at various points along the journey, Haleem Adil Sheikh vowed that the rally in Islamabad would be the largest in the nation’s history. He emphasized that the rally’s purpose is to demand the release of Imran Khan and called for political stability as essential to resolving Pakistan’s worsening economic crisis. Sheikh criticized the current government, denouncing the arrests of PTI leaders and condemning the violence against female workers by the Sindh police.

He accused the Zardari-led administration of misusing public resources for personal gain and claimed the current rulers lack a legitimate public mandate. He further stated that the Islamabad rally aims to reclaim what he described as the “stolen mandate,” promote judicial independence, and secure Imran Khan’s release, calling on citizens from across the country to participate.
