SUKKUR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh, alongside party leaders including Arsalan Khalid, Shabeer Qureshi, and others, held a press conference at Insaf House in Karachi to criticize the Sindh provincial government’s handling of the recent flood crisis. The press conference focused on the severe flooding caused by monsoon rains and the alleged negligence of the Sindh government in responding to the disaster.
Sheikh expressed serious concerns about the ongoing flood situation, revealing that many areas in Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, and Shaheed Benazirabad divisions remain submerged. He highlighted that Hyderabad’s neighborhoods are still under water, thousands of acres of crops have been ruined, and coastal regions like Thatta and Badin have faced high winds and destruction. The situation has worsened with floodwaters breaching the Indus Highway, isolating over 70 villages in Dadu and Sehwan. Additionally, a Levies check post on the Sindh-Balochistan border has been washed away.
According to Sheikh, the recent floods have resulted in 47 fatalities and extensive crop damage. Despite this, he criticized the Sindh government for failing to initiate relief operations. He noted that Chief Minister Sindh has not visited the flooded areas in Dadu, and the promised construction of 2 million homes from last year’s floods has seen only minimal progress.
Sheikh accused the provincial government’s focal persons of engaging in superficial activities rather than providing essential relief supplies. He lamented that many areas, including Badin’s Ghulam Ali Chandio village, remain submerged, with water standing in streets and homes. In Tando Allahyar, additional fatalities have been reported, and parts of Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, and Sindhri are also severely affected.
