PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced that it will take strict disciplinary action against Senator Mishal Yousafzai following her recent statements, with a show-cause notice expected to be issued shortly.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar stated, “Enough is enough. Action will be taken against Mishal Yousafzai. No language against the family of PTI’s founder will be tolerated. Any party member making statements against the founder’s family has no place in the party.”
The party leadership emphasized that while internal differences are normal, public statements against the founder’s family violate PTI’s principles. The call for strict action was supported by Maryam Riaz Wattoo, sister of PTI founder’s wife Bushra Bibi, who demanded Mishal Yousafzai’s suspension, citing instructions from the founder regarding correction of her behavior.
PTI Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja expressed concern over Mishal Yousafzai’s actions, suggesting they may be part of a coordinated campaign against the party, including matters related to the selection of Chief Minister Suhail Afridi. Alima Khan, the founder’s sister, also accused Mishal of dishonesty and making false claims about the family.
In response, Mishal Yousafzai dismissed the accusations, claiming that circulating videos on social media could be AI-generated and refrained from further public comments, citing restrictions on media statements.
The controversy arose after a PTI-led sit-in outside Adiala Jail regarding the founder’s health, with Mishal claiming that the family had instructed the protest to end—a claim rejected by party leadership.
PTI officials indicated that disciplinary measures will be finalized and enforced after February 8.
