ISLAMABAD: Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has called on Supreme Court Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa to clearly state his position regarding the acceptance of a judicial extension, asserting that such a decision would “clarify” ongoing uncertainties.
In a media briefing, Barrister Gohar emphasized the significant responsibility borne by Chief Justice Isa. He remarked, “If Justice Faez Isa declines an extension, it will set a clear precedent and establish a new trend. We hold all judges in high regard.”
Gohar also voiced his discontent with being stifled in the assembly, particularly in his responses to comments made by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif. He condemned Asif’s remarks about the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, criticizing the language used. “We may be in the opposition, but we are not your servants,” Gohar stated. “If we speak, you should have the courage to listen.”
Earlier, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif accused PTI leader Ali Amin Gandapur of seeking forgiveness at the Kohsar Complex throughout the night. On a point of order, Asif disparaged Gandapur as “a two-faced man” and urged others to distrust him.
Asif expressed frustration over the recent meetings of a parliamentary special committee, alleging that it focused on resolving PTI’s issues rather than addressing broader parliamentary concerns. Gohar condemned Asif’s reference to the special committee in the assembly, calling it an improper practice.
“You only presented half the story. We are not withdrawing; we are here to fortify this forum. Our women and children have been mistreated,” he added.
In related news, PTI leader Omar Ayub condemned the legal actions against the party’s founder, branding the cases as “bogus” and asserting that he should have been released by now. Ayub criticized the government for detaining the PTI founder in connection with the Toshakhana 2 case, deeming his imprisonment unjustified.
“He should have been released yesterday or the day before,” Ayub said, referring to September 9 as a “black day” for Parliament. He also pointed out that Independent Power Producer (IPP) agreements were signed during the tenures of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
