PESHAWAR: Murad Saeed, a prominent leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), formally resigned from his Senate seat on Friday, delivering his resignation to the Chairman of the Senate in a move that has intensified political tensions.
In his letter, Saeed sharply criticized the current parliament, labelling it “fraudulent and illegitimate” and alleging that it had shown disregard for the public mandate. The senator urged PTI to follow suit, calling for the immediate resignation of party members from the Senate, the National Assembly, as well as the Punjab and Sindh provincial assemblies.
PTI confirmed that Saeed’s resignation had been accepted, marking an unusual development as the lawmaker had been elected in 2025 but had not yet taken the oath of office. Analysts suggest that his move signals a wider strategy by PTI to challenge the legitimacy of the sitting legislature and galvanize party supporters.
