LAHORE: The Punjab cabinet, in a meeting in Lahore on Friday, approved a series of public welfare and development initiatives, including the launch of the “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar Program.”
Under the new scheme, the government will allocate agricultural land to 50,000 landless farmers across the province. The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, also approved plans to expand electric bus services to the tehsil level. One thousand green buses with a cashless payment system will be procured to support the expansion.
Cabinet members sanctioned hundreds of new posts across departments including Crime Control, Excise, Tourism Police, IT, and the Home Department. Officials also approved measures to simplify business laws, promote tourism and culture, amend the Motor Vehicle Ordinance to allow driving permits for 16 to 18-year-olds, and strengthen law and order.
Addressing the cabinet, Maryam Nawaz said the government is committed to ensuring that facilities reach every citizen, from city centers to rural villages. Separately, the Chief Minister said all departments are actively preparing to make the upcoming government-sponsored three-day Basant Festival in Lahore safe for everyone.
Speaking at a Basant Festival review meeting on Friday, she said the city’s traffic plan had been carefully devised for the event, which will take place from 6 to 8 February. The capital will be divided into different zones, and bikes will not be allowed to enter the Red Zone without passing through security wires.
