LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the “Ramzan Nighban” package, under which 4.2 million deserving families across the province will receive PKR 10,000 each during the holy month of Ramadan.
The decision came during a meeting in Lahore chaired by the Chief Minister, focused on Ramadan preparations and public relief measures. Under the program, the government will issue Nighban cards to underprivileged citizens, enabling access to cash and essential goods. The scheme also includes ration cards, Nighban dining arrangements, “Sehoolat Bazaars” (facilitated markets), and other administrative measures.
District authorities will distribute Nighban cards house-to-house, while beneficiaries can withdraw cash through Bank of Punjab branches, branchless banking agents, and the One Link ATM network. Purchases at designated merchants will also be possible using the cards. To facilitate activation, 136 centers will be established across the province, with ATM-based activation also available.
Ration card holders will receive PKR 10,000 during Ramadan, up from the usual PKR 3,000 monthly. A monitoring dashboard and counter verification system will track distribution, with cardholders contacted for confirmation.
Eight Nighban dining centers will operate in each tehsil under the “Maryam ke Mehman” initiative, serving 2,000 fasting individuals daily with dates, samosas, sherbet, fruit, and chicken biryani. Across 30 districts, 65 Sehoolat Bazaars will function, with temporary bazaars in 11 districts. Card-based payments will support free home delivery.
