Explosives, weapons, and suicide vests were seized as Punjab’s CTD arrested 33 terrorists during intelligence-based operations. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab has carried out 475 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) across multiple cities in the province, leading to the arrest of 33 suspected terrorists.
According to reports, the arrested individuals were allegedly planning coordinated attacks to incite fear and disrupt public peace. These operations were executed in cities such as Lahore, Gujranwala, Mianwali, Bahawalpur, Nankana Sahib, Rahim Yar Khan, and Bhakkar, a CTD spokesperson revealed.
Among the apprehended individuals, a high-profile militant affiliated with the banned group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar was captured in Lahore. During the raids, the CTD confiscated a substantial stockpile of explosives, including a suicide vest, two hand grenades, 26 detonators, ammunition, mobile phones, and cash, which were suspected to be intended for use in terrorist activities across the region.
The CTD reaffirmed its commitment to combating terrorism, with a spokesperson stating, “We are resolute in our mission to eliminate terrorism from its roots.” Earlier, in a series of operations conducted in August, CTD apprehended a key operative of the Daesh terrorist group in Faisalabad, along with two accomplices identified as Abdul Wahab, Saifullah, and Khurram Abbas. In June, CTD’s 152 IBOs led to the arrest of 22 individuals suspected of being linked to banned organizations.
