LAHORE: In a decisive move to safeguard its mineral reserves and protect the environment, the Punjab government has enforced Section 144 in Attock district, implementing a three-month ban on unauthorized mining activities. This directive particularly targets mining along the Indus River, encompassing all minerals, including valuable placer gold, which significantly contributes to the national treasury.
The Punjab interior secretary confirmed that the initiative aims to curb illegal extraction practices threatening the region’s mineral resources and environmental integrity. The directive strictly prohibits both unauthorized mining and the transportation of mining machinery along the Indus River, reflecting a commitment to sustainable resource management.
