Program received principal approval for three housing models, with a detailed briefing conducted under CM Maryam Nawaz

LAHORE: The Punjab government is set to unveil its ambitious “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” housing program on August 14, 2024, aimed at providing affordable housing solutions for residents across the province. The program, which has received principal approval for three different housing models, represents a significant step towards addressing housing needs in Punjab.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a comprehensive briefing on the program, during which the details of the housing models and pilot phase were discussed. Model homes have been prepared as part of this initiative, showcasing the proposed designs and amenities. CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized the inclusion of living rooms in these model homes and announced the introduction of a toll-free number for public convenience. In line with CM Maryam Nawaz’s directives, the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) will develop a specialized portal for the program.
This portal will enable interested applicants to submit online applications from the comfort of their homes, streamlining the application process. During the briefing, Secretary of Housing Captain (R) Asadullah Khan explained that application forms for the program will be accessible at the offices of Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners. The program offers interest-free loans for plot owners ranging from one to five marlas, facilitating the construction of their homes. To support homeowners, easy installment plans for loan repayment will be available.
Additionally, PC-I approval has been granted for the construction of ground and three-story apartments on government land, with feasibility studies expected to follow soon. For private schemes, three and five marla houses will be allocated to Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) allottees, who will benefit from a five-year installment plan for payments. The Punjab government will also provide subsidies to reduce the financial burden on homeowners in these schemes. Up to 70,000 plot owners in various cities and villages will be eligible for loans, with interest-free options available for plots up to five marlas.
The government will cover service charges for loan disbursements through microfinance institutions. The briefing was attended by prominent figures including Senator Pervez Rasheed, Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, and other officials. The “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” program is expected to significantly enhance access to affordable housing, contributing to the overall development and well-being of Punjab’s residents.
