LAHORE: Punjab has been placed on high security alert following terror threats linked to Fitna al-Khawarij and rising tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Authorities have tightened security across the province, particularly in Lahore, amid fears of possible militant activity.
According to officials, a security threat regarding a planned act of terrorism in Lahore prompted heightened vigilance in the provincial capital. The alert level was further intensified after recent border tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Law enforcement agencies have significantly increased security at sensitive installations, especially government buildings and offices of security institutions.
Roads passing directly in front of key law enforcement buildings have been closed to general traffic, while comprehensive checks and full documentation of visitors entering official premises are being carried out. Monitoring around security installations has also been stepped up in response to the perceived threats.
Security has been enhanced at major government buildings throughout the province, and additional measures have been put in place at entry and exit points of Lahore and other cities. Authorities are conducting thorough searches of suspicious vehicles and maintaining detailed records to prevent any untoward incident.
Officials said the steps are precautionary and aimed at ensuring public safety amid evolving security concerns.
