GUJRANWALA: Punjab Police’s Special Operations Cell has arrested Ghulam Abbas, an absconder on the run for six years, in a successful operation conducted with the help of Saudi authorities.
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, Abbas, who had been wanted by Gujranwala police since 2018 for his involvement in the abduction and attempted murder of a woman, was apprehended in Saudi Arabia. His capture followed the issuance of a Red Notice by Interpol, which led to close coordination between Punjab’s Special Operations Cell and Saudi police. He was subsequently deported to Pakistan, where he was taken into custody upon arrival at the airport.
The arrest brings the total number of overseas absconders captured by the Special Operations Cell this year to 70.
In a separate development, on September 4, a joint intelligence-based operation by the Rangers and police resulted in the arrest of a notorious gang leader and his associates. The suspected ringleader, Minhaj Ali Khan, also known as Menu, was apprehended along with Muzamil Hashmi (alias Baban), Muhammad Talha, and Muhammad Ahsan (alias Jadoo). Minhaj confessed to his involvement in over 60 incidents of street crime across various neighborhoods in the city.
Earlier this year, a separate gang of robbers, known for using Facebook to acquire weapons from Dera Adam Khel, was arrested in Karachi. In a joint operation conducted in the Jannat Gul Town area of Sohrab Goth, Sindh police and paramilitary forces captured three suspects: Jan Agha, Umeed Gul (alias Laghmani), and Abdul Rehman. Agha, identified as the leader of the gang, admitted to evading arrest by fleeing to Iran before returning to resume his criminal activities in Pakistan.
