Punjab police have successfully thwarted an assault by suspected terrorists on a checkpoint in Mianwali, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced on Monday. The attackers, identified as members of a terrorist group known as the “Khawarij,” launched their attack under the cover of darkness at a police post near Isa Khel. The officers at the checkpoint responded with resolve, forcing the group of 14 militants to retreat.
Interior Minister Naqvi praised the officers for their exemplary professionalism and courage. “Commendations to the brave officers who demonstrated outstanding bravery and efficiency,” he stated, highlighting the crucial role of the Punjab police as a formidable defense in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
This incident comes amidst a week of severe violence across Pakistan. The country experienced one of its deadliest weeks in years, with over 70 fatalities in coordinated attacks across Balochistan targeting police stations, railway lines, and highways. Additionally, a roadside bomb in North Waziristan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulted in four deaths and twelve injuries. In a separate incident, Lieutenant Colonel Khalid Ameer and his relatives were abducted in Dera Ismail Khan district last month but were subsequently released, as reported by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
