CHENNAI: Veteran actor Rajinikanth was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Chennai late on September 30, 2024, due to stomach problems. The 73-year-old superstar, a prominent figure in Indian cinema for decades, is currently reported to be in stable condition. A spokesperson for the hospital confirmed that he is scheduled to undergo an elective procedure, with interventional cardiologist Dr. Sai Satish performing the surgery on Tuesday in the hospital’s cardiac cath lab.
Fans and well-wishers have been anxiously awaiting updates regarding Rajinikanth’s health. Prior to his hospitalization, the actor was in Visakhapatnam filming his latest project, Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. He had recently returned to Chennai to attend the audio launch of another upcoming film, Vettaiyan, set to release on October 10. At that event, Rajinikanth appeared energetic, even participating in a dance performance with lyricist Super Subbu and composer Anirudh Ravichander.
His hospitalization has understandably raised concerns among his devoted fanbase, prompting several political figures to send their best wishes. Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed his support on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “I wish my dear friend Rajinikanth a speedy recovery.” Many others from the film industry, including actor-politician R. Sarath Kumar, have also extended their hopes for the actor’s quick return to full health.
