KARACHI: Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) have arrested a suspect involved in extortion during a targeted operation in Karachi’s Kharadar area, acting on confidential intelligence. The arrested individual, Mubashir alias Maya, son of Abdul Karim, is reportedly associated with the notorious Wasiullah Lakho gang.

According to a press release from the Rangers’ headquarters, the suspect was found in possession of two mobile phones, one motorcycle, and cash. Mubashir is listed on the CIA’s wanted list of criminals.

During interrogation, Mubashir revealed that Wasiullah Lakho had demanded 50 million rupees in extortion from a businessman in the FB Area and New Karachi. He further disclosed that, on Lakho’s instructions, he and an accomplice named Sherry were involved in firing incidents outside the businessman’s home and factory. CCTV footage reportedly captures Mubashir committing these acts.

Rangers officials said additional raids are underway to apprehend other suspects involved in the extortion network. Mubashir has been handed over to the police along with the recovered items for further legal proceedings.

The Rangers urged the public to assist in preventing crime by reporting any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest Rangers check post, the Rangers helpline at 1101, or via the WhatsApp number 0347-9001111. Informants’ identities will be kept confidential.
