KARACHI: Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that the provincial government is actively negotiating with federal authorities to address the issue of skyrocketing electricity bills. During a press conference on Tuesday, Memon acknowledged that the increasing cost of electricity has become a severe concern for many Pakistanis, with numerous citizens struggling to manage their bills.
Memon reassured the public that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is engaged in discussions with the federal government to resolve this issue. “We are working tirelessly to bring good news to the people regarding relief from high electricity bills,” he said. The senior minister also criticized past administrations for discontinuing projects initiated by former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. He emphasized the potential of Thar coal as a solution to Pakistan’s energy needs, highlighting that Thar coal can generate electricity at a cost of Rs11 per unit, while Nooriabad coal provides power at Rs9 per unit.
Memon underscored that harnessing Thar’s resources could significantly alleviate the country’s energy crisis. The PPP leadership, Memon stated, is committed to addressing the ongoing energy challenges and providing relief to the public. The Sindh government’s efforts to address the electricity issue are part of a broader strategy to improve energy affordability and support economic stability in the region.
