WASHINGTON: A foreign news agency report has revealed details of an alleged high-level coordination between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prior to a reported strike targeting Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
According to the report, Netanyahu contacted Trump 48 hours before the attack, urging immediate action against Iran’s leadership. Citing fresh intelligence, the Israeli premier reportedly proposed a potential “decapitation strike” aimed at Khamenei and his close aides, arguing it was a rare opportunity when Iran’s leadership appeared vulnerable.
The report said Netanyahu presented the operation as both strategically and symbolically significant, stressing that such a moment might not come again.
During the call, Trump is said to have approved military action in principle but did not immediately decide on the timing or conditions for US involvement. The report suggested that Netanyahu’s recommendation played a key role in shaping the final decision.
It added that the first strike was carried out on February 28, after which Trump publicly claimed that Khamenei had been killed.
The White House has not confirmed details of the call but stated that the objective of the operation was to weaken Iran’s ballistic missile capabilities and prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Netanyahu, for his part, rejected claims that Israel pressured the United States into war, describing such reports as “fake news,” a position later echoed by Trump, who said the decision to act against Iran was ultimately his own.
The report does not suggest direct pressure from Israel but indicates that Netanyahu framed the situation as a historic opportunity to significantly alter the regional balance by targeting Iran’s leadership.
