MALAKAND: A planned daytime robbery at a prominent jewelry shop in Shakakot’s commercial market was foiled after the shopkeeper resisted the attackers, forcing the suspects to open fire before fleeing the scene.
The shop, owned by Khurshid Khan, was targeted by three masked and armed men. Following the incident, Assistant Commissioner Dargai Shahab Khan, along with Post Commanders Safeer Rehman and Shahab Anwar Adil, led a police and law enforcement operation. The team tracked down and apprehended all three suspects, recovering their weapons.
In response to the swift action, leaders of the United Trade Union, Hamid Khan Lala, and the Jewelry Union, Fazal Mola, organized a rally to praise the administration’s prompt response. Several individuals and organizations also announced cash rewards for information leading to the arrest of the culprits. These included PKR 50,000 each from Islam Ghazi, President Tehsil Mir Pir Islam, and the jewelry Union, PKR 100,000 from welfare organization head Wajid Khan, and PKR 50,000 from Rahman Hussain Zargar.
Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Commissioner Shakakot Shahbaz Tehsil Mir Pir Islam said no effort would be spared to maintain law and order. He described the Malakand Levies Force as a brave team and said operations against criminals, including drug traffickers and other lawbreakers, were continuing. He added that full cooperation from the local administration was essential. Local residents praised the administration and law enforcement agencies for their swift response. They said decisive action of this kind was vital to curbing crime and ensuring public safety in the area.
