ISLAMABAD: The Ambassador of Romania in Islamabad, Dan Stoenescu, received Muhammad Awn Chaudhry, Minister of State for the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis & Human Resource Development, for a constructive meeting on strengthening cooperation between Romania and Pakistan in labor mobility.
The discussion focused on promoting skilled and orderly temporary labor migration, rooted in transparency, mutual benefit, and respect for national laws. The Ambassador said Romania welcomed qualified Pakistani professionals who met concrete labor market needs and contributed responsibly and legally to the economy.
Ambassador Stoenescu said, “I also stressed that visa issuance is a regulated process, conducted according to national legislation and established conditions. Migration frameworks must remain predictable, well-regulated, and aligned with the temporary nature of labor mobility schemes.” He added that Romania is not a destination for permanent migration.
The Romanian envoy said, “Our cooperation is aimed at temporary, skills-based mobility. Workers are expected to return home with enhanced experience and expertise.” He said the knowledge, skills, and savings gained abroad could support Pakistan’s sustainable development. In this way, labor mobility became mutually beneficial, he said. Romania is ready to work closely with Pakistani authorities to identify effective and responsible mechanisms for cooperation. This includes improved information exchange, pre-departure preparation, safeguards against irregular migration, and firm action against abuses by some manpower agencies. By working in a spirit of trust and partnership, labor mobility can remain safe, legal, and beneficial to both countries.
