SIRIUS, RUSSIA: At the plenary session of the First Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov declared that trade between Russia and African nations has reached an unprecedented level, with a record high of $24.5 billion. This milestone, Lavrov emphasized, is just the beginning, as there remains significant untapped potential in the relationship. Despite what he described as “artificial hurdles” imposed by the collective West, Russia is determined to enhance its economic ties with Africa further.
Lavrov noted that these challenges have not deterred the growth of trade and economic cooperation. In fact, Russia continues to refine its business support mechanisms, develop more efficient logistical solutions, and explore new instruments for mutual settlements that are independent of Western influence. He underscored that this collaboration is not only resilient but is actively finding ways to circumvent external obstacles, aiming to strengthen Russia-Africa ties and unlock even greater opportunities for bilateral trade and investment.
The Foreign Minister’s remarks signal Russia’s ongoing efforts to deepen its engagement with African countries, amidst a backdrop of geopolitical tensions and Western opposition. This development comes at a time when Russia is seeking to expand its global influence, with African nations seen as key partners in this broader strategy.
