JAMSHORO: The Shaheed Allah Buksh Soomro University of Art, Design and Heritages held its third Senate meeting with a wide-ranging agenda focused on strengthening governance, financial planning and institutional development, as members approved key policy, academic and budgetary measures for the coming years.

The session was chaired by the vice-chancellor, Prof Dr Arabella Bhutto, and began with the confirmation of the minutes of the Senate’s second meeting held on 27 August 2024. The house reviewed progress on earlier decisions and expressed satisfaction over the pace of implementation across administrative and academic areas.
The Senate approved the university’s consolidated annual reports for 2020–2025 after detailed discussion on academic expansion, research initiatives, infrastructure development, student achievements and overall institutional performance. Members praised the university’s growing role in promoting art, design and heritage studies in Sindh.
Financial matters dominated much of the proceedings, with the Senate giving approval to the actual expenditures for the 2023–24 financial year, the revised budget estimates for 2024–25 and budget estimates for 2025–26, amounting to Rs665.506m. The approvals were described as part of a strategy to ensure fiscal discipline, transparency and sustained academic and infrastructural growth.
In line with the university’s statutory requirements, the Senate also elected two of its members to serve on the Syndicate, reinforcing what participants described as a democratic and participatory governance structure.
A newly constructed mosque on the campus was inaugurated by Senate member on the seat of Alim, Khalid Mehmood Soomro, during the meeting.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks to the chair, with members reiterating their commitment to further improving the academic and administrative standards of the university.
Among those who attended were the Sindh government’s secretary for universities and boards, Muhammad Abbas Baloch; the nominee of the Higher Education Commission, Sulaiman Ahmed; MPA Fayaz Ahmed Butt; the chairman of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Hyderabad, Zahid Ali Channar; and noted professionals Sultana Siddiqui, Dr Noman Ahmed, Ar Faryal Sikander, Ar Marvi Mazhar and Sameera Raja, along with the acting registrar Muhammad Suleman Bhutto and members of the Syndicate, Senate and other statutory bodies.
