SUKKUR: Shaheed Allah Buksh Soomro (SABS) University of Art, Design, and Heritage, Jamshoro, hosted a two-day workshop on Iranian Art and Calligraphy, featuring the renowned Iranian calligraphy artist Dr. Ali Piran. Organized by the university’s Fine Art Department, the event aimed to deepen students’ understanding of traditional and contemporary calligraphy techniques.

During the inaugural session, SABS University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Arabella Bhutto underscored the significance of calligraphy as an artistic and cultural expression. She lauded Dr. Ali Piran’s extraordinary accomplishment of completing a handwritten Quran in an exclusive calligraphic style within just two years.

Dr. Ali Piran provided insights into his mastery of the Shikasta-e-Nastaleeq script, a delicate and distinctive calligraphic form. Quoting a Hadith, he noted that those who write “Bismillah” beautifully will be granted entry into heaven without resistance, emphasizing the spiritual depth of calligraphy in Islamic tradition.

Deputy Commissioner Jamshoro Ghazanfar Ali Qadri emphasized the importance of perseverance in practical life and commended the initiative, encouraging students to hone their artistic talents and contribute to Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage.

Raza Parsa, Director of Khana-e-Farhang (Iranian Cultural Centre, Hyderabad), conveyed the Iranian government’s appreciation to SABS University for inviting a distinguished artist to share his expertise.
