KARACHI: Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani commended the Korangi Industrial Area (KIA) industrialists for their exceptional philanthropic efforts in supporting the education of children from labourer families. Ghani’s remarks came during the inauguration of the Al-Badar campus, a new school under the Green Crescent Trust (GCT) at Sharifabad, Karachi.

The Al-Badar campus, now the 170th charitable school of GCT, was built in just five months and will serve over 350 students. This addition is part of GCT’s broader initiative, which includes 10 schools in Sharifabad and the adjacent Mehran Town, catering to more than 2,222 children, 60% of whom are girls. Notably, 80% of the teachers in these schools are female.
Ghani praised GCT’s uninterrupted three-decade-long commitment to educating underprivileged children in Sindh. He highlighted the generous contributions of KIA’s industrialists, which have played a crucial role in providing quality education to the children of industrial workers. He lauded this philanthropic model as a benchmark for businesses across the country, encouraging them to support similar charitable initiatives.
The Local Government Minister emphasized the provincial government’s appreciation for the efforts of genuine charities and NGOs working to enroll out-of-school children. He urged philanthropists and donors to continue their support for such organizations, which collaborate with the government to combat illiteracy.
Syed Johar Ali Qandhari, President of KATI, affirmed the ongoing commitment of Korangi’s industrialists to support charities like GCT, aiming to eradicate illiteracy in Pakistan. He described supporting educational charities as a vital community service.
KATI Deputy Patron-in-Chief, Zubair Chhya, congratulated GCT for its persistent efforts over the past 30 years to improve educational facilities in Sindh’s remote areas. He reiterated KATI’s full support for government and NGO efforts to enroll out-of-school children.
GCT CEO Zahid Saeed acknowledged the significant, anonymous donation that funded the new school’s construction. This donor has also supported the education of 5,000 students enrolled in GCT schools. Saeed expressed gratitude to all patrons and donors, noting that GCT has benefited over 32,199 students. He highlighted the organization’s goal to expand to over 250 schools with 100,000 students by the end of 2025, driven by the continued support from KIA’s industrialists and the broader business community.
