KHAIRPUR: Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) hosted a laptop distribution ceremony on 24 February 2026 as part of Phase IV of the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme, providing 1,014 devices to students enrolled in BS, MS, MPhil, and PhD programs. The event celebrated the government initiative aimed at bridging the digital divide for students from economically disadvantaged families.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Yousuf Khushk described the scheme as a national strategy to empower youth and promote digital literacy. He urged students to use the laptops responsibly for research, online courses, thesis work, business planning, and community service, emphasizing that the devices were meant to enhance learning rather than for entertainment.
The distribution, supervised by the Higher Education Commission, followed strict merit-based selection criteria. Dr. Amjad Mughal, the scheme’s focal person at SALU, confirmed that beneficiaries were chosen based on academic performance from 2021 to 2025. Students from a range of disciplines, including Computer Science, Education, Microbiology, Islamic Studies, Physics, Media Studies, Law, Commerce, and Economics, received the laptops.
The ceremony was attended by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Wahid Bux Jatoi, deans, faculty members, and senior administrators, highlighting SALU’s commitment to combining academic excellence with practical skills development. Dr. Khushk emphasized that the initiative aimed not just to provide technology but to foster research, innovation, and employable skills under the university’s “From Degrees to Skills” vision.
