SUKKUR: Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) in Khairpur has reinforced its commitment to academic excellence following a comprehensive review of the Charter Inspection and Evaluation Committee (CIEC) report from the Sindh Higher Education Commission (SHEC). Dr. Khushk underscored the importance of implementing the CIEC’s recommendations to elevate academic and administrative standards at SALU.
A high-level meeting, chaired by Vice Chancellor Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, brought together key university officials, including the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Deans, Heads of Departments (HODs), and representatives from departments such as the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC), and Postgraduate Studies (PGS).
The CIEC’s assessment of SALU, conducted on October 14 and October 18, 2024, provided a detailed evaluation of the university’s operations. The meeting focused on addressing key observations and formulating strategies for institutional improvement. Among the priority areas were administrative reforms, departmental efficiency, and faculty development. Dr. Khushk stressed the need to align university functions with the CIEC’s recommendations, emphasizing accuracy, accountability, and progress.

Faculty members were urged to maintain a balance between teaching and research, with a push toward securing research grants from national and international organizations. To facilitate this, the university plans to introduce training sessions for faculty and staff, covering research methodologies, academic writing, and institutional collaboration.
Enhancing the student experience also emerged as a critical focus. Maintaining a student-to-faculty ratio of 30:1, establishing career counseling programs, and fostering interdisciplinary research partnerships were among the proposed initiatives. Additionally, Deans were tasked with organizing academic conferences and seminars within their faculties to encourage scholarly dialogue and professional development.
A significant outcome of the meeting was the announcement of a comprehensive training program for administrative staff, scheduled from April to August 2025. This five-module initiative will cover professional development, workplace ethics, student services, communication skills, and digital literacy. Designed to blend theoretical knowledge with practical applications, the program aims to cultivate a culture of continuous learning and operational efficiency.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Khushk commended the faculty and students for their dedication, emphasizing that collective efforts were essential in addressing institutional challenges and achieving sustained academic progress. With these strategic measures, SALU reaffirms its commitment to enhancing higher education standards in Sindh and positioning itself as a leading institution in academic and research excellence.
