RIYADH: Saudi Arabia issued a nationwide warning of heavy rainfall and possible flash floods as unstable weather spread across much of the country.
The National Centre for Meteorology said thunderstorms and intense downpours were expected from Friday to Tuesday in several regions, raising fears of flooding in low-lying areas.
According to the latest forecast, the weather system was likely to affect large parts of the kingdom, including Makkah, Jeddah, Madinah, Tabuk, Al-Jawf, the Northern Border Region, Hail, Qassim, Riyadh, the Eastern Province, Al-Baha, Asir and Jazan.
Officials urged residents to stay updated through official channels, avoid flood-prone valleys and take extra care on the roads during periods of low visibility. In Madinah and surrounding districts, the first winter rains brought a noticeable drop in temperature and a welcome change to the city’s atmosphere.
Heavy showers, accompanied by thunder, also fell around the Prophet’s Mosque, where worshippers described the rainfall on the green dome as a spiritually uplifting sight. Visitors were seen offering prayers of gratitude as the rain continued.
