SUKKUR: Commissioner Shaheed Benazirabad Division, Shahmir Khan Bhutto, on Tuesday detailed a wide-ranging plan to provide maximum relief to the public during the holy month of Ramazan, emphasizing strict price control, uninterrupted supply of essentials, and effective grievance redressal mechanisms.
Addressing journalists at the Committee Room of the Commissioner Office, Shahmir Khan Bhutto said the Divisional and District Administrations of all three districts had devised a coordinated strategy to ensure citizens could access essential commodities at officially notified rates. He stressed that Deputy Commissioners across the division had been directed to strengthen the price control mechanism, while Assistant Commissioners and Mukhtiarkars would conduct daily inspections of vegetable and fruit markets, grocery stores, flour mills, and wholesale markets.
The Commissioner warned that immediate action would be taken against violations such as overpricing, hoarding, adulteration, and underweight selling. Legal measures, including fines and sealing of shops, would be enforced against offenders.
Highlighting collaboration with traders, Shahmir Khan Bhutto announced that 31 mini subsidized bazaars would be established across the division, along with 16 complaint cells to promptly address public grievances. In addition, special Ramazan bazaars and sale points will be set up in various markets to ensure the availability of flour, sugar, ghee, pulses, rice, vegetables, and other essential items at reasonable prices.
To facilitate citizens, complaint cells in business centers have been activated, and helpline numbers issued for direct registration of complaints and immediate resolution.
The Commissioner also stated that arrangements for cleanliness, lighting, and security in mosques and markets would be strictly maintained to allow citizens to perform religious obligations and shop in a safe and peaceful environment. Relevant departments have been instructed to maintain close coordination, and any negligence will not be tolerated.
Emphasizing the role of the media, Shahmir Khan Bhutto said journalists play a vital role in highlighting public issues and should positively project the administration’s efforts while promptly reporting any irregularities for timely action.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment, he said providing maximum relief to citizens during Ramazan remains the top priority of the divisional and district administrations. He added that, in line with directives from the Government of Sindh, a zero-tolerance policy against profiteering will be strictly enforced.
He also appealed to the public of all three districts to purchase essential commodities at officially notified rates and to report any overcharging to the complaint centers established by the district administration.
On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Shaheed Benazirabad, Abdul Samad Nizamani, stated that a comprehensive plan had been formulated to ensure relief in essential commodity prices, adding that hoarding and profiteering would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
