KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon announced the launch of the second phase of the province’s electric scooter (EV scooter) distribution scheme, marking a significant step in promoting eco-friendly transport and empowering women through improved mobility.
The announcement came during a meeting chaired by Memon, attended by Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, Managing Director of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) Kanwal Nizam Bhutto, and other officials, where ongoing and upcoming transport projects in the province were discussed.
The meeting focused on enhancing mobility infrastructure in Karachi and other cities, including new public transport initiatives. The first phase of the scheme had reportedly provided around 200 free pink electric scooters to women, while the cabinet-approved plan envisaged distributing up to 1,000 scooters.
On November 4, 2025, the government announced that the second phase would soon begin, opening registrations for a broader rollout. The initiative aims to offer women safer and more accessible transportation in a city where traffic congestion and limited public transport options often restrict mobility.
