The deceased have been identified as Junaid, 25, and Umair Sultan, 18. According to Dr. Summaiya Syed, a police surgeon, both individuals were pronounced dead upon arrival at their respective hospitals: the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto (SMBB) Trauma Centre at Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Lanjar emphasized the necessity for stringent security measures and called for immediate action against those responsible for the violence, including their supporters. “Immediate action must be taken against those who have violated the law, including their supporters,” Lanjar urged. He stressed the need for decisive legal action against the perpetrators and their patrons. Despite the unrest, traffic flow in the area has been restored, and religious gatherings related to Imam Husain’s Chehlum have proceeded as scheduled. DIG Baloch confirmed that the police force has arrived at the scene and is working to control the situation. The clash involved the Ahl-e-Sunnat and Shia groups. DIG Irfan Baloch assured that the police are managing the situation. He also noted that a large number of Sipah-e-Sahaba activists have gathered and that a bus was also set on fire.
Meanwhile, the Coordination Committee of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan has expressed grave concerns over the recent tragic incident in Nazimabad Gulbahar area, emphasizing that the event, occurring just one day before the Chehlum of Imam Hussain (RA), seems to be a deliberate conspiracy. The committee urged law enforcement agencies to use all available resources to restore peace. The MQM-P’s committee highlighted the extensive efforts made to foster sectarian harmony in the city and declared that it would not allow anyone to plunge Karachi into sectarian violence. It extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes for a speedy recovery for those injured. It also appealed to religious scholars from all sects to play their part in maintaining unity, harmony, and a peaceful atmosphere
