Israel is transforming into an international criminal and terrorist state, reads resolution tabled by Palwasha Khan

ISLAMABAD: The Senate, chaired by Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, convened on Monday to address the recent assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. During the session, Senator Palwasha Khan introduced a resolution that received unanimous support from the Senate members.

The resolution expressed profound grief over Haniyeh’s death, attributing it to an Israeli Zionist attack. It condemned the ongoing violence against Palestinians and criticized the human rights abuses perpetrated by Israeli forces. The resolution accused Israel of becoming an “international criminal and terrorist state,” and called for a unified response from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Pakistan, and other Islamic nations.

Senate members urged Islamic countries to lift the blockade on Gaza to allow emergency aid to reach Palestinians and to collectively work towards halting the bombardment of Gaza immediately. The resolution highlighted the need for international solidarity against Israeli actions and emphasized the importance of addressing the humanitarian crisis.

Senator Sherry Rehman, parliamentary leader of the PPP, supported the resolution, noting that international bodies are increasingly condemning Israel’s actions. She criticized Israel and India for their global actions against innocent populations, emphasizing the indiscriminate nature of Israeli attacks on children, the elderly, and women. In her remarks, Senator Palwasha Khan accused Israel of violating war laws and obstructing peace efforts. She drew comparisons between the conflicts in Kashmir and Gaza to historical genocides and expressed concerns about ongoing turmoil in Bangladesh.

Khan referenced historical Pakistani leaders like Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, calling for current leaders to display similar courage in defending the Palestinian cause. She concluded by asserting that Pakistan’s stance on international issues and its nuclear program have made it a target for Israel. The Senate’s resolution and discussions underscore Pakistan’s continued commitment to addressing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and supporting the Palestinian cause on the international stage.
