UMERKOT: Senior journalist A.B. Arisar was violently attacked in Umerkot while reporting on the financial losses suffered by Solangi Mohalla victims, with authorities saying an attempt was allegedly made on his life. Arisar stated that he was gathering information during a police operation when Dilbar Bhayo, an Agriculture Department employee, and his associates, including Ali Murad Dal, allegedly assaulted him, leaving him severely beaten.
The Umerkot Press Club, chaired by Ghulam Muhammad Kunbhar, strongly condemned the attack and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused. Journalists including Rasool Bux Rahmadani, Mumtaz Arisar, and Nazar Muhammad Sumejo alleged that the accused had been sheltered at former MNA Lal Malhi’s bungalow and received support from PTI Umerkot. SSP Uzair Ahmed Memon praised Arisar as a reputable journalist and a voice for the oppressed, assuring that the perpetrators would not be spared regardless of their influence.
The incident has sparked widespread concern over press freedom and the safety of journalists reporting on sensitive local issues.
