ISLAMABAD: US Vice President JD Vance has said that negotiations between the United States and Iran concluded without a final agreement, confirming that Washington is returning home without a deal.
He stated that Iran refused to accept US conditions despite lengthy discussions.
Speaking at a press briefing in Islamabad, JD Vance said both sides engaged in talks for around 21 hours and discussed key issues, including frozen Iranian assets. He added that the US entered negotiations in good faith and showed flexibility in pursuit of a positive outcome.
He said Washington clearly outlined its demands, including preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons capability, and stressed that the US cannot accept Iran developing nuclear arms in the future.
Vance noted that while meaningful discussions took place on several issues, Iran chose not to accept the US terms, resulting in the failure to reach a deal.
He also thanked Pakistan’s leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, for their role in facilitating talks between the two sides.
He added that the US leadership, including President Donald Trump, had been in constant contact throughout the negotiations, and multiple US officials, including the national security and foreign policy teams, were also involved.
