SUKKUR: The Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) has been embroiled in controversy following the appointment of 21 officials, previously under investigation for corruption and irregularities, to key positions within the organization. The appointments, made by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SEPCO, have raised serious concerns about the company’s governance and operational inefficiencies.

According to reliable sources, these officials were part of a list shared with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) by Arshad, the then Secretary of WAPDA, who had taken notice of widespread corruption and power theft within SEPCO. Despite the inquiry, these officials were recommended for non-posting, but the CEO of SEPCO ignored these recommendations and proceeded with their appointments.

The list of individuals implicated in the corruption scandal includes several senior officials such as Abdul Ghani Shaikh, Mir Atrhar Talpur, Khalid Hussain Shaikh, and others. These officers were appointed to pivotal roles, including Chief Engineer, Superintendent of Engineer, and XEN (Executive Engineer), among others.

The appointments have sparked accusations of nepotism and favoritism, as many of these individuals were believed to be involved in irregularities that severely impacted SEPCO’s financial health. The result of these controversial appointments has been a significant deterioration in the company’s financial performance.
