KARACHI: The Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (SESSI) recently carried out an awareness campaign on October 24 and 25 across District Central, including the North Karachi and Federal B Industrial Areas. This initiative, organized under the guidance of the Sindh High Court, aimed to educate both registered and unregistered laborers on the Social Security Mazdoor Card and the provisions of the SESSI Act 2016.
Led by SESSI’s Director for the Federal B Area Directorate, Ali Hyder Zaidi, and Deputy Director Wasim Jamal, the campaign included outreach efforts within multiple factories, where SESSI officials conducted awareness sessions about the rights and extensive benefits that laborers are entitled to under the SESSI Act. These benefits include comprehensive medical coverage, which extends to both laborers and their families. The first three sessions of the campaign, held in various localities within District Central, served as an entry point for many workers to understand their rights to social security protections.
The SESSI Act 2016 represents a significant stride toward the social and economic betterment of laborers by ensuring healthcare and social security coverage. Under this act, the Sindh High Court has pledged to ensure that all eligible workers—including those in industrial, commercial, and even home-based roles—receive the protections they deserve. This campaign not only underscores the importance of worker registration under the SESSI framework but also highlights the role of employers in fostering a more productive and secure working environment. By supporting their employees’ registration and encouraging them to attend these sessions, businesses can help cultivate a workforce that is healthier, more motivated, and better equipped to contribute to Pakistan’s economy.
The campaign reflects a shared responsibility among government institutions, laborers, and employers in building a socially secure workforce. Laborers and employers in the targeted areas are encouraged to take full advantage of these sessions and the resources offered by SESSI, which are crucial to ensuring a fair and productive labor sector in Sindh.
