SUKKUR: Hundreds of displaced residents in Golarchi are facing dire conditions, 11 days after severe breaches in the Sim Nullahs sewerage drains led to widespread flooding in the region. Despite the passage of more than a week, local authorities have yet to take effective action to repair the breaches, leaving many residents stranded and in urgent need of assistance.
The breaches, caused by recent heavy rains, have resulted in severe flooding that has submerged over 150 villages within Golarchi taluka. As a result, hundreds of displaced families are now taking shelter on roadsides and embankments, exposed to the elements. The flooding has devastated homes and left many without access to essential resources. The displaced families are facing acute shortages of food, clean drinking water, and medical supplies. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that many children have fallen ill due to the harsh conditions and lack of proper shelter. The absence of adequate facilities and support has intensified the crisis, with families struggling to manage under dire circumstances.
Local residents have voiced their frustration and desperation, accusing the Badin district administration and government-appointed emergency officials of failing to address their needs. They have reported that despite some aid from social organizations, including food and tents, the assistance remains woefully inadequate in meeting the scale of the crisis. In response to the worsening conditions, affected villagers have made urgent appeals to the Sindh government and district administration for immediate intervention. They are calling for swift action to repair the breaches in the sewerage drains and provide necessary resources to support the displaced families. The lack of response from authorities has intensified their suffering, with many families still waiting for help.
