KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has taken serious notice of alleged irregularities in appointments and promotions at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), directing the provincial health secretary to conduct a transparent and impartial inquiry.

During the proceedings, the names of several officials, including Dawar Hussain, Muhammad Faisal, and Rajia Urooj, were mentioned in connection with the allegations. The bench, hearing the case on Tuesday, dictated its order in open court, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive probe.

The health secretary was instructed to investigate the claims thoroughly and submit a detailed report within fifteen days. “The matter will be reviewed again after the stipulated period,” the court noted, warning that disciplinary action and potential penalties could follow if irregularities are confirmed.

The directive has placed the onus on the Sindh Health Secretary and the Chief Secretary of the province to establish an inquiry committee promptly and carry out the investigation with integrity. Sources indicated that the government is expected to move quickly to comply with the court’s instructions, as scrutiny of appointments and promotions in public institutions has intensified in recent months.

Legal experts said the court’s firm stance reflects a broader push for accountability in public sector administration, particularly in healthcare, where lapses can have wide-ranging consequences. The NICVD inquiry is now expected to serve as a test of the provincial authorities’ commitment to transparent governance and adherence to judicial oversight.
