ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Monday inaugurated ‘Shikra’, a new monitoring system at the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports designed to track passport applications, printing, and departmental performance in real time.
The upgrade includes a 24/7 monitoring room and a call center, which have now been made operational. On the minister’s directives, the system for issuing Emergency Travel Documents has also been fully digitized. Officials briefed Naqvi on the Secure Hybrid Intelligence for Knowledge-Based Response Analytics (Shikra) system.
The minister praised the DG Immigration and Passports and his team for introducing a modern, technology-driven network. He said Pakistan’s passport system is now aligned with those of leading countries. “With this new system, real-time monitoring of passport applications and deliveries — both within Pakistan and abroad — will now be possible,” he added.
“Every stage, from application submission to final delivery, will be closely supervised.” Naqvi said the government aims to provide citizens with fast, secure, and globally standardized services. He noted that the upgraded framework would further enhance departmental efficiency.
The minister also highlighted improvements in passport security features, now upgraded to meet ICAO international standards. New automatic German printing machines have increased production capacity, removed human intervention in printing, and improved overall reliability. During his visit, Naqvi toured the e-monitoring room, call center, forensic lab, and modern production unit.
