SUKKUR: Fostering peace and social responsibility among the youth, a two-day training workshop titled “Role of Academic Institutions in Peace Building” was held at The Shaikh Ayaz University in Shikarpur. Organized by Bhittai Social Watch & Advocacy (BSWA) in collaboration with the Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) and the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), the workshop focused on enhancing the role of academic institutions in promoting peace, particularly in Northern Sindh.
The workshop was inaugurated by Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, who commended BSWA for their efforts in facilitating this capacity-building training for young peace ambassadors. He emphasized the Commission’s commitment to advancing human rights across Sindh and highlighted the project’s goal of raising awareness about the protection of women’s and minority rights in the region.
Renowned scholars, including Mr. Jami Chandio and Samson Salamat from Rawadari Tahreek, engaged with the participating students, sharing their insights and experiences in the realm of peace building. The workshop featured expert trainers Dr. Ali Raza Lashari and Dr. Saifullah Shaikh, who guided the 20 male and female students through various training modules.
The curriculum encompassed essential topics such as the education system and the Constitution of Pakistan, the importance of citizen engagement, youth rights, the art of activism, local governance, and the vital role of academic institutions in nation-building. The trainers underscored the significance of education and constitutional development, detailing the salient features of Pakistan’s 1973 Constitution.
