KARACHI: Governor of Sindh, Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi, has underscored the pressing need to ensure equal access to education for girls, stressing that educated women are central to the country’s social and economic advancement.
He expressed these views during a meeting at the Governor House with Chancellor Wajhiuddin of Jinnah University for Women, where the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and senior faculty members were also in attendance.
During the session, Chancellor Wajhiuddin highlighted the historical importance of the institution, explaining that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had granted Dr Riazuddin permission to establish the university in his name, making it Pakistan’s first dedicated women’s university.
He further outlined how the university has evolved to provide women with modern and technologically oriented education across a variety of disciplines, enabling them to participate more fully in professional and academic spheres.
Governor Hashmi emphasized that empowering women through education was not merely a social imperative but a key driver of national development and prosperity. He noted that the government remained committed to broadening educational opportunities for women, aiming to create environments where women could pursue learning on an equal footing with men.
Officials highlighted that initiatives to enhance women’s education are vital for nurturing skilled professionals, innovators, and leaders who can contribute to all sectors of the economy.
Governor Hashmi also stressed that supporting institutions like Jinnah University was central to achieving this goal, providing young women with the resources and guidance needed to excel.
